

Sue Ann Holaday, a beloved and thoughtful soul, passed away on March 9, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on December 9, 1935, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Bernard and Margaret Shumaker, Sue Ann spent her early years in Upper Sandusky before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, with her family in 1950.
In her youth, Sue Ann attended St. Peters Catholic School in Upper Sandusky and later completed her education at West High School in Phoenix. Growing up alongside her siblings, John, Jane, and James Shumaker, she developed a strong sense of family and faithfulness that would guide her throughout her life.
Sue Ann dedicated her career to nursing, a testament to her caring nature. She worked as a registered nurse and eventually retired as the Director of Nurses and Home Care from Foundation for Senior Living in 2000. Her commitment to caring for others was evident in her professional life and personal relationships.
In 1952, Sue Ann met the love of her life, Merl "Gene" Holaday, on Central Avenue. They married on February 22, 1955, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. Sue Ann was the proud mother of six daughters: Deborah (Nick), Stephanie, Nancy, Jackie (Scott), Peggy (Gary), and Brenda (Jim). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Stephen (Diane), Tonya (Jason), Bryan (Rachel), Jeffrey (Katlin), Terra (Allan), and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brayden, Benjamin, Decker, and Oliver.
Sue Ann was a woman of many talents and interests. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and camping, often spending cherished moments at the family cabin. Her love for travel took her to Germany, Canada, Mexico, Italy, and across 40 states in the USA. However, her happiest times were spent surrounded by her family, creating memories at gatherings and enjoying the beauty of nature.
In her passing, Sue Ann leaves behind a legacy of love, faithfulness, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
