Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Susan moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in the 1960s, where she built her life and career. After graduating high school, she followed her calling into nursing, dedicating over 40 years of her life to labor, delivery, and recovery. She brought thousands of new lives into the world, offering steady strength, comfort, and expert care to expectant mothers during their most profound moments.
Outside of her noble career, Susan’s heart and home were always open to creatures big and small. Over her lifetime, she rescued and cared for countless pets—ranging from cats and dogs to even a raccoon. In her later years, her ultimate companion was her beloved cat, Indy, who brought her boundless joy and comfort.
Susan is survived by her devoted son, James, and his wife, Amy; her four beloved grandchildren, Seleena, Zachary, Tristan, and Kayla; and her three great-grandchildren, Sterling, Mia, and Santiago, along with another great-grandchild expected soon. Her family will forever carry forward her gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and fierce kindness.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at West Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. Services will begin with a viewing at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service and a brief graveside ceremony. Afterward, family and friends are invited to gather back at the funeral home for a root beer float social to honor Susan’s lifelong love for root beer and celebrate the sweet memories she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan's honor to a local no-kill shelter, such as the Arizona Humane Society or the Arizona Animal Welfare League, to support the rescues and animals she cared for so deeply.
