Teresa Celiberti, 100, of Phoenix, passed away on Wednesday September 15, 2021 in Glendale, Arizona. She was born on December 29, 1920 to the late Giuseppe and Cristina Maria (Mazzarella) Liuzzi in Grassano (Province of Matera), Italy. On March 27, 1947, she married Stefano Celiberti in Grassano.
Having raised her first four children – two sons and two daughters - in Italy, she and her family moved to New York in 1959. There she had three more daughters. In 1973, Teresa, her husband, and three youngest daughters moved to Phoenix where she resided for the last 48 years.
Teresa always maintained traditional family values, unwavering faith in God, and provided hope and encouragement to her children and grandchildren. Her tranquil demeanor provided a beacon of stability and security to those around her.
Besides her family, it was cooking and gardening that gave her the most joy. She was an early bird – tending to her flower and vegetable gardens at sunrise, then retreating to the kitchen to begin cooking for the day. Family gatherings on holidays were perhaps cherished most by Teresa.
Teresa was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, her husband, Stefano, her daughters Phyllis and Anna, her grandson, John, and her daughter-in-law Rosie.
She is survived by five children - Michael Celiberti and wife Nina, Joseph Celiberti, Stephanie (Celiberti) O’Connell and husband James, Cathy (Celiberti) Zamorano and husband Daniel, Nikki (Celiberti) Porter and husband Kelly, and two sons-in-law Clifford O’Neill and Anthony Celiberti. Teresa is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. Funeral service follows from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a graveside service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
