He leaves his beloved wife of 23 years, Marilyn; his sons Eric (Andra) and Michael (Becky) Edgell; 6 grandchildren – Rebekah Krukenberg (Karl), Abby, Sam, Logan, Allie, and Bridget Edgell; and 2 great grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Krukenberg; brother Patrick Edgell of Costa Rica and sister Kathleen Cody of South Carolina; and his faithful companion Dakota.
Born in Inglewood, CA, the son of Doris and Thomas J. Edgell, Tom had a very active and fulfilling childhood that featured many adventures and many jobs including a paper route and running Disneyland’s balloon business.
After high school, Tom served in the Marines and worked numerous jobs including time as a butcher, a guitar builder, and a cabinet maker while living in Redondo Beach, CA, Indiana, and Arizona. Tom settled in Phoenix, Arizona where he pursued an engineering degree at Arizona State University. He graduated from ASU in 1974 and then joined Sperry Corporation as an electrical engineer. He would progress to a career in global marketing for Sperry/Honeywell working in both the flight systems and aerospace divisions. He also served on the Board of the Foundation for Blind Children in Phoenix, AZ.
Tom was an avid lifelong hunter and deep sea fisherman. In his younger years, he loved to work on cars. In his later years, he loved investing in the stock market and indulging in slot machines and craps tables in Las Vegas/Laughlin. He also loved to vacation and visit his mother and step-father Bill Brennan in Destin, Florida.
Above all, Tom was a great Dad and grandfather teaching his sons to work hard and work smart and spoiling his grandchildren with innumerable Christmas presents and ‘ice cream specials.’ Tom will forever be missed and leaves a huge void in the lives of all that loved him.
