Tillie Duran Luna

Tillie Luna passed peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2019 at the age of 84 in her home in Peoria, Arizona. Tillie was born in St. Johns, Arizona on May 14, 1934. Her family moved to Winslow, Arizona in 1940. She grew up in Winslow where she met her husband, Eddie Luna. They were married on December 24th, 1954. After getting married, Tillie and Eddie started a family and had four children. They spent their early years in Winslow and moved to Phoenix in 1967.

Tillie focused on raising her children. She was an excellent cook who was known for her green and red chili, tortillas and baked delicacies such as her Jell-O cake. As the kids grew older she worked in the electronics industry and retired in 1992. She spent her retirement years helping her daughter Lucille raise her kids and later living in Peoria where she was very active in her church, St. Charles Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by parents Solomon and Juanita Duran; her sister Eleanor, and brother Tommy. Tillie is survived by her sisters Josie, Nellie, Judy and her brother Jimmy (wife Prescilla); her children; Eddie (wife Tanya), Gilbert, Yvonne (husband Mario), and Lucille (husband Luiz); her 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Tillie enjoyed spending time with her family especially on holidays where she would host the kids and grandkids. She was an avid yard saler who was a professional at finding the deal of the day. Shopping for a new wardrobe was also high on her to do list. She loved to buy green chili from New Mexico as soon as it was harvested. She would roast and store the chili to be used throughout the year. Tillie loved to bake cakes and would try new recipes such as her banana split pie. She was a very independent lady who lived most of her retirement years on her own until she was 83 years old.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt will be dearly missed by her family and friends. West Resthaven Funeral Home is honored to serve the Luna family.

A “Celebration of Life” in Tillie’s honor will be held on Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. A Reception will be held immediately after the “Celebration of Life” at Peoria Community Center, 8335 W. Jefferson Street, Peoria.
