William R. Nelson, 61, of Glendale, Arizona passed away December 9, 2012. He was born in Evanston, Illinois to Robert I. Nelson, Sr. and Catherine Louise (Bessey) Nelson. William, known to many as Bill, was very active in his community. He was a past Chair of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, past President of Kiwanis Club of Glendale, past president of Banner Community Council, active in the Acacia Lodge #42 A.F. & A.M in Avondale; Medinah Shriner’s, Addison, Illinois and Scottish Rite, Valley of Chicago, Bloomington, Illinois; Past Patron of Areme Order of Eastern Star, Buckeye, AZ, Past Monarch of Rameses Grotto, and a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, Sun City, AZ. Although he was afflicted with health challenges for a number of years, he remained as active as he could and he will be remembered by many for his great sense of humor, larger than life personality and devotion to his wife.
Mr. Nelson is preceded in death by his mother and a brother Robert I. Nelson Jr. He is survived by his wife June A. Nelson; father Richard I. Nelson Sr.; brother Patrick J. Nelson, 3 nieces and 4 nephews and a host of friends.
His life is celebrated Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Lakeview United Methodist Church, 10298 West Thunderbird Boulevard Sun City, AZ 85351 during a visitation beginning at 3:30pm and service at 6:30 pm. Arrangements by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301.
