Elena Montinola Peralta, affectionately known by her grandchildren as LOLA, and resident of Glendale, CA, went home to rest in our Lord at the age of 88. She passed away on January 31, 2023 at GLENDALE ADVENTIST HOSPITAL. She is preceded in death by her parents (Mariano and Florentina Montinola) and husband, Mario Peralta; her youngest son, Eduardo Peralta; her sister, Orencia M. Tano; and her brother, Crension Montinola. She was born in Barosong, Tigbauan, Iloilo City, Philippines on May 5, 1934. From a barrio in the Philippines, she would become a U.S. citizen with the help of her oldest daughter and son-in-law. She worked tirelessly to petition citizenship for her remaining 3 daughters and their children. Her life tells the story of a hardworking mother with a relentless determination to forge a better quality of life for her family. She was a strong, tried and true Ilonggos- full of charm and sweetness. She always had a smile, a laugh and a song on her lips. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the twinkle in her eyes and the love song in her heart. She enjoyed cooking, eating, and her cigars/tobacco. She was unafraid of new experiences and insisted on being a part of the good time. Her life is a testament to the value of hard work, sacrifice and finding joy in the struggle. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held Friday, 2/22/2023 at Glendale Funeral Home 4pm - 8pm.
