Helen Margaret Nahom

Helen was born on May 12, 1929 to David and Adell (Metres) Nahom in Danbury, CT. Helen was a vibrant and wonderful person who was beloved by her family and friends and was the favorite Aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1947, then she made a brave move across the country to Los Angeles, CA where she remained for the next 77 years of her life. She had a long and successful career as an executive administrator for the City of Los Angeles until she retired.

Despite having survived polio as a child, Helen lived an incredibly active life up until her final days. She had a strong Catholic faith and was a much-loved and cherished member of Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church where she served as a lector and volunteered in the office. She was also a volunteer at the hospital for years. Helen loved spending time with family and friends playing bridge, watching the Oscar movies and going out to restaurants. She loved to travel and see the world, and collect interesting items from all her travels. She even had a valid driver’s license, that she recently renewed. She was excellent at keeping in touch and never missed a birthday of a single family member, including siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased in death by her parents and her siblings George Nahom, Emily Gowdy, Georgette Morey, Edmund Nahom, Carol Beers and her nephew Wayne Gowdy. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Maria Nahom and her 18 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 2060 N. Vermont Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90027 on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 10:00 am. A funeral will be held at St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road Danbury, CT 06811 on August 10, 2024 at 11:00 am, burial immediately following at St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations be made to Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church (https://omgcla.org/donate) or St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church (https://saintann.org/).
