Patrick Albert Broderick August 22, 1934 - August 19, 2016 Obituary Patrick Broderick was born in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Edith Broderick. He was the youngest of five children and had several half bothers and sisters from his father's previous marriage. While in elementary school he asked his friends to start calling him Rick after being bullied by classmates who called him "Patty." As a young boy, Rick was always looking for mischief along with his neighborhood buddies. He enjoyed swimming in the summer in the local lake and public pool. He went on hunting trips with his father but never enjoyed killing ducks and rabbits but he did enjoy fishing. As a teenager, he would often take jobs as a carny when the carnival came to town. While in his late teens Rick was thinking about becoming a hairdresser. He thought that was a great way to meet girls. When he found out that the waiting list was two years out he decided that a career as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio would be a better choice. He worked there for about year and left after having a disagreement with the management. Rick enlisted with the Air Force in the mid 50's and was stationed in Casablanca. His life nearly ended there while he was working on dismantling an airplane. He was using an electric torch and came very close to the plane's tank. This caught the eye of an officer who yelled at Rick to stop. If he had gone any further, the plane would have blown up. Rick traveled throughout Europe while in the Air Force. One of his favorite places was Garmisch, Germany which he later visited with his wife Phyllis in 2000. After returning to civilian life, Rick decided that he wanted to pursue a career in carpet and window cleaning. He didn't enjoy working for other people so he made a decision to go in business for himself and thus G.I. Window & Carpet Cleaning was born. He kept the business going well into his 70's. Last year Rick turned the business over to his grandson, Shaun. Rick and his first wife Pat met and married in Akron, Ohio and moved to California in 1961 a year after the birth of their first son Ricky. In 1966 Pat gave birth to their second son T.C. Rick met his second wife, Phyllis in 1980 in a park in North Hollywood where they were separately exercising their dogs. They were married in 1982 and were divorced in 1987. After a thirteen year hiatus they got together again, moved to Shadow Hills and remarried on March 11, 2000 in Laughlin, NV. Rick loved to ride his Harley Davidson with his friends. Trips to the beach or into the canyons were his favorite places to ride. He also spent hours in his garage either fixing or creating new things. One of his favorite projects was making a picnic table with four benches with his grandson Robby. He enjoyed making trips to Lost Wages. Slot Machines, Craps and Three Card Poker were amongst his favorite games to play. Most importantly, Rick loved to help out his friends and family whenever he could. Rick is survived by his wife, Phyllis, brother Frank( Annie), sons Ricky(Yvette) and T.C. (Mara). Grandchildren, Shaun (Tracy), Joey, Robby, Patrick, Brandon, Jeffrey, and Kody. Great grandchildren, Evan, Brandon and Ruby. Patrick Broderick was born in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Edith Broderick.
