Shirley Anne Staubs, 79, passed away on February 12, 2016 at Antelope Valley Hospital after suffering a heart attack at the Lancaster Healthcare Center where she resided for the past month. She relocated back to CA after living with her son, Dean, in Las Vegas for the past seven years. Shirley (Kelley) Staubs was a native of Dixon Township, Preble County, OH and attended Monroe Central School in West Manchester, OH; however, she spent nearly 50 years of her life in Glendale, CA where she worked for 33 years serving at the Toasted Bun Restaurant (Glendale Ave/California Ave). Her dedication to service and loyal following at the Toasted Bun led to a recognition award presented to her at her retirement by the Former Mayor of Glendale. Shirley was the ultimate optimist and loved life and laughing. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family and close friends. She made her home the center of activity for all of her children and their friends and cherished her time spent with all her family whether it was laughing with her ten siblings or playing games with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading medical journals and always had her change purse ready to play cards. Shirley lit up every room she ever entered with her bright smile. She loved getting dressed up with her hair styled high, her bright colored nails and wearing her sparkling jewelry and high heel shoes to go out to dinner with her friends or host a gathering where you could always count on being served her famous salad and a glass of wine by candle light. At Christmastime, everyone looked forward to her delicious peanut brittle and her parties. She adored her husband of 37 years, Rudolph (Rudy) Staubs, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1994. Her parents, Robert & Alice Kelley of Eldorado, Ohio and 6 of her 10 siblings: Earl Kelley, Robert Kelley, Jr, Alice Frances Manning, Betty Horn, James Kelley, and Elmer Kelley along with her first grandson James Staubs, eldest son of Dean, and her stepson George Staubs were also waiting for her at Heaven’s Pearly Gates. Shirley is survived by four siblings: Norma Ross of Richmond, IN; Carolyn Powelson of Cadillac, MI; Ernest Kelley (Sandra) of Aurora, IL; and Patty Bechtol (Carl) of Eaton, OH along with four children: Douglas Staubs, Sr. (Anastasia) of Las Vegas, NV; Dean Staubs, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV; Alice York (Robert) of Austin, TX; and Rudolph Staubs, Jr (Tamara) of Pearblossom, CA. Shirley was known as “Maw Maw” to her surviving grandchildren - children of Doug: Douglas Staubs, Jr, Steven Staubs, Stuart Staubs (Catlyn Barnett), Alexander Staubs & Maria Staubs; children of Dean: Dean Staubs, Jr & Randall Staubs (Stevie); children of Rudy: April Staubs-Walsh (Anthony), Stephanie Staubs, and Bryan Staubs (Ashley); and children of George: Timothy Staubs (Toni) & Tamre Shuman. Seven great-grandchildren also survive her. A funeral service will be held in the Callanan & Woods Scovern Mortuary, 511 S. Central Ave., Glendale, CA on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. by Pastor Jim DeVore. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale, CA. A dear friend, Joe Cross, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 1596 Yosemite Drive, Los Angeles, CA, will host a post-funeral reception immediately following the services.
