Gertrud "Gertie" Paulson

Gertrud J. “Gertie” Paulson, 95 passed away on February 4, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Charles F. Paulson; loving mother of Ted “Teddy” (Nancy) Paulson and the late Horst “Joe” (Laura) Schaefer; cherished grandmother “Oma/Omi” of Christiana and Derek Paulson; Stefan (Maureen) and Joshua (Terri) Schaefer; dear great-grandmother to Noah, Pierce, Riley and Colin Schaefer; she also gained 2 more granddaughters, Aimee White and Kimmi (White) Hayward and their families when Ted and Nancy married. She was a loving friend to many. Gertrud came to America from Germany in 1958 to start a new life and met her late husband, Charlie. In 1962, on her birthday she gave birth to her son, Teddy. They moved to Glendale Heights in 1963 and developed lifelong friendships with their neighbors. She was a lunch Mom at Glen Hill School from 1995- 2010. Gertrud loved swimming, gardening and bowling. She enjoyed Saturdays at Brunswick coaching and she bowled until she was 94 years old. A Celebration of Gertrud’s Life will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 3-9 p.m., at Cypress Funeral Home, 1698 N. Bloomingdale Road, Glendale Heights, IL 60139; where a Service will begin at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Northwestern Medicine/Hospice Division, 690 E. North Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188. For information call (630) 653-7666.

Sending deepest sympathy to your family... I remember meeting Gertie around Christmas time when Ted & Nancy would stop by for a holiday visit at the Bowman's house. She was such a delightful & kind person - always smiling and upbeat. May her light shine on in your hearts!

Teddy, praying for you and your family during this difficult time. I have fond memories of Gertie from her coaching days of the kids league on Saturday mornings at Brunswick. Gertie always encouraged us along with the rest of the coaches to do our best. Another memory was cook outs and pool parties at her house. Gertie you will be missed R.I.P. love ya Kimmie
