He was born, raised and resided most of his life in Glendale, NY; moving in 2012 to be nearer to his daughter and grandson’s.
Alan attended St. Pancras School and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1959. He served honorably in the United States Army from March 1960 through April 1962.
He was an electrical draftsman at Con Edison for over 35 years; retiring in 1999 and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues with frequent lunches at McSorley’s Old Ale House and annual camping trips to the Adirondacks spanning decades.
Alan liked to work with his hands; building cabinets, tackling renovation projects at home and for family and friends. He carefully tended his backyard vegetable garden on 75th Street, yielding a delicious bounty over many Summers.
But above all, Alan was a family man. He loved Arleen, his wife of nearly 61 years with all his heart. They lived the vows taken when they wed on July 11, 1964 and their devotion to each other never waned.
He adored his daughter Christine and grandsons Jonathan and Christopher. He was their guiding light, and source of kindness and sensible wisdom. He gave his love to them in the most selfless of ways, and they are well aware of the profound influence his life has had on shaping the people they are today.
His great-grandson Christopher Thomas was truly the apple of his eye, the special little boy who brought so much joy in his later years.
Alan’s deeply personal Catholic faith shepherded him throughout his life and we believe the Lord welcomed him to his eternal Heavenly home and reunited him with his parents, Violette and Arthur, watching over us who remain here and love him now and always.
