

Elba Iris Schmidt, aged 78, passed away on October 17, 2025. Born on December 30, 1946, Elba was a resident of Glendale, New York. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, friend, and superhero.
Elba was the cherished wife of Dennis, with whom she shared a marriage of 62 years, having dated for 5 years prior, making a total of 67 wonderful years together. She was a loving mother to Deanna (Judy), Dawn (Michael), and Dennis (Timi), and an adored grandmother to Georgie. Elba is a dear sister to Aida and is pre deceased by her younger sister, Jeorgina and her older brother, German.
Elba's adventurous spirit and compassionate nature made her a devoted and gentle presence in the lives of those she loved. She was known for her hard-working demeanor, humorous outlook, kind-heartedness, and thoughtfulness. Her love for family was evident in her joy for spending time with them, especially during trips to Disney World with her grandson,Georgie . Elba was also an independent handy person, teaching Dawn how to drive and sharing movie nights with Georgie.
Elba had a great love for music, particularly from the 1950s, and enjoyed musicals like "Mama Mia," "Shrek," and "Beetlejuice" being among her favorites. Her sense of humor and unconditional love were hallmarks of her personality, and there was seemingly nothing she couldn't do. Proud of her Puerto Rican heritage, Elba embraced her roots with pride.
Visitation will be held at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385, on October 24, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A religious ceremony will take place at St. Matthias' Roman Catholic Church, 58-15 Catalpa Ave, New York, NY 11385, on October 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Following the ceremony, a committal service will be held at Cypress Hills Cemetery, 833 Jamaica Ave, New York, NY 11208, from 11:30 am to 12:25 pm.
Elba Iris Schmidt will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her devotion to family, and her gentle, kind-hearted nature. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and humor that will be cherished by all who knew her.
