OBITUARY

Erwin Petschauer

Passed away on March 16, 2020

Erwin F. Petschauer was born on October 4th, 1930 in Tschermoschnitz, Austria to John & Martha Petschauer. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and proudly served in the 25th Infantry of the United State Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he put himself through flight school and became an airline pilot. After a successful career as an airline pilot during the 50’s and early 60’s he settled down, married, and dedicated his life, along with his wife Anna Marie, to raising their three boys. Erwin is perhaps best known for owning the Glendale Travel Agency. For more than three decades he served the travel needs of the greater Glendale community. He was an active member of the Glendale community, the Gottscheer Community, his Church (Sacred Heart Parish), the Glendale Kiwanis Club, the Enzian Ski Club, the Gottscheer Bowling Club, and the Gottscheer Relief Association. He was also a Director of the Bushwick Club of New York and a participant in several other community and ethnic organizations. Erwin was an avid hunter and loved spending time at his weekend home in Hawley, PA. But, skiing was his passion. He shared his love of skiing by teaching many family and friends over the years how to ski and the thrill of the sport. This was especially true for his sons who have all followed his passion for the sport. He was blessed to be able to enjoy his passion with his family and friends until his last days. Erwin is survived by his sons, John, Erwin and Ken, his daughters-in-law Susan, Beth and Elysha, and his grandsons Erik and Andrew.

Services will be held in the future at a time to be determined.

In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that you consider making a Donation to Angel Flight, a Charitable Organization of Pilots that help other in need. Thank you.

I only met Erwin once but it was with his family and if the mark of a good parent is his children, grandchildren and their parents, he led by example and was a success. I know he will be missed but will always be in their memories.

Dear John, Susan, Erwin, Beth, Kenny & the boys: I am very sorry to hear about Mr. P’s passing. He was always a lovely and generous man. Patient. Good sense of humor. Fearless. A good neighbor. Been thinking a lot about him the last few days. Little moments. He made an impact on many lives and he will be missed by everyone. Xoxo Catherine

Our deepest sympathy to Susan, John and the entire Petschauer family on the loss of your Dad and grandfather. Erwin was an exceptional man, a true friend and gentleman. He had a kindness about him that is very rare. He was a proud Gottscheer and a proud and upstanding American. I always looked forward to seeing him on Thursday evenings at Jib lanes as he was a devoted member of the Gottscheer Bowling Club. We also enjoyed his visits to our homes in Middle Village and Hawley. He will be missed by his many friends and we pray he is resting in the company of heaven.
