Jose E. Almodovar (Joe), beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend passed away on July 5, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York. He was 73 years old.
Born on January 10, 1952, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Joe was a proud son of Carlo and Maria Soto. He carried his Puerto Rican heritage with a quiet strength and deep pride throughout his life.
A skilled welder by trade, Joe found his calling working on Navy ships, where he earned respect as a gouging specialist – a job that demanded precision, endurance, and craftsmanship. His hands shaped steel, but his heart built a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, his wife Ruth; his devoted daughter and son, Melanie, and Jose Jr. (Joey); and his four adored grandchildren: Joshua, Victoria, Ethan, and Valentina. He also leaves behind his dear younger brothers, Carlito and Mikey, along with many extended family members and friends who were blessed by his warmth and wisdom.
Joe was the kind of man whose presence made you feel safe and loved. He was steady, kind, joyful, and deeply generous. Although he was sick with Rheumatoid Arthritis for most of his life, you would have never known it because he never complained. He chose joy! He was always ready to lend a hand, share a story or make someone laugh.
He wore many titles in life – husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law, and friend – and he wore each one with quiet pride and unwavering love.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
