January 26, 1939 – October 23, 2026
Louis Horvath passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved him dearly.
Louis was a devoted family man whose greatest priority was taking care of the people he loved. He shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife, Madeline, spanning more than 66 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and family, raising their daughter, Lynn and two sons, Dennis and Alan, and also gained Christoper as son in-law and Olga as a daughter in-law. Louis was also a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Hailey, who brought him great joy.
Louis was a provider, a protector, and a steady source of guidance for his family. He was always there for his children, offering advice, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever they needed him. His loved ones and friends knew him as someone they could turn to, a trusted sounding board who was always willing to lend his perspective and support. Taking care of others came naturally to Louis, and his family could always count on him.
Louis was a hardworking and dedicated businessman who rose early each morning and often returned home late in the evening. He ran a successful construction company, H. Zimmerman Iron Works, alongside his friend and business partner, Hilmar Link. Their professional partnership spanned more than 45 years, built on years of hard work, trust, and friendship. Madeline worked as a secretary and played an important role in managing the company’s administrative responsibilities, helping to keep the business running smoothly.
Outside of his family, Louis enjoyed staying active and participating in the sports he loved, including golf and bowling. He was also a passionate sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering on his beloved New York Yankees, New York Jets, and New York Islanders.
Louis had a passion for cooking, and he loved preparing delicious meals for his family. He was especially known for his Hungarian goulash, as well as his homemade Spätzle, carefully making each noodle by hand. He also enjoyed preparing Hungarian barbecue and sausages, along with Italian dishes and skirt steak. His talents extended to baking, where he delighted his family with homemade cheesecake and tiramisu. Louis also loved to make traditional strudel, potato pancakes, and crepes. Every Christmas, Louis assisted his wife, Madeline and granddaughter, Hailey with making butter cookies from scratch. Louis would help prepare the dough while Hailey and Madeline made the cookies, a tradition the family looked forward to every year.
For Louis, cooking was more than preparing a meal; it was a way to bring his family together and show his love through the time and care he put into every dish.
Louis was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Sherman Council, for many years. His faith and commitment to his community were important parts of his life.
Above all, Louis deeply loved his family and was always concerned about their well-being. He constantly checked in to see how everyone was doing, always wanting to make sure they were safe, happy, and taken care of. His concern came from a place of deep love and devotion, and looking for his family was one of the many ways he showed how much they meant to him. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, enjoying his favorite activities, or sharing a conversation with friends, Louis appreciated the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. Kind, sociable, and genuinely good-hearted, Louis had a way of making connections with those around him. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family, and the quiet strength with which he cared for those he loved.
Louis leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and devotion that will live on through his wife, children, granddaughter, extended family, and many friends. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May he rest peacefully, forever loved and never forgotten.
