Magda Schlierf

Magda Broscheid was born on November 11 1933 in Germany.

Magda is survived by daughters Cornelia Rom (Richard J. Rom), Heidi Tapscott (Robert Tapscott); grandchildren, Christina Rom (Richard Gecsedi), Cindy Rom, Phillip Tapscott, Harrison Tapscott; great granddaughter, Allison Gecsedi; her brother, Helmut Broscheid (Margot) and family in Germany( as well as plenty of family in Germany and Florida, from her husband Josef Schlierf, who predeceased her February 27, 2013.

Magda met Josef while they were each working in Lucerne Switzerland. Josef emigrated with just a suitcase to Manhattan, New York, USA through a sponsorship by his father’s sister, aka, his aunt. After some time of working as a butcher, he mailed Magda the money to buy a ring and a flight to the USA. They lived with his aunt and were married soon thereafter. Both worked very hard to eventually rent a place of their own, purchase a home, learn English, and make a life in their new country.

Magda is a member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and St John’s Women’s Guild in Glendale.

She is a member of Schuhplattler VV Original Enzian since the 1970’s after her children Cornelia and Heidi Schlierf became interested in dancing and joined the club. Magda was from Hamburg, North Germany, the Plattduetsche region and married Josef who was from a small town near Nuremberg, Bavaria.

Magda loved children and her greatest joy were her grandchildren who she loved to nurture and care for. Magda was a great cook which aligned perfectly with a great butcher as a husband! She instilled in her family honesty, cleanliness, respect, helpfulness and hard work.

Visitation will be held at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385, on , 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2026.

A Funeral service will take place at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 88-24 Myrtle Avenue Glendale, New York 11385 at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 20, 2026. https://www.saintjohnsglendale.org/
