Matilde E. Lazcano

March 14, 1948 - November 7, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matilde Espejo Lazcano, who went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2025, at White Plains Hospital, surrounded by her family, at the age of 77. Born in Copacabana, Bolivia, she moved to New York with her beloved husband, Freddy Lazcano, in 1979, where they shared 47 years of marriage and raised three children: Allison, William, and Miguel.

A deeply religious woman, Matilde was a devoted member of Grace Church for many years, dedicating her time and energy to her parish and the wider community. She helped organize one of the first Spanish-language services and led a group of first-generation Bolivians, offering guidance, friendship, and support to those building new lives in a new country.

Her home was always open, filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of her cooking and baking. She had a passion for dogs, painting, knitting, attending church on Sundays, and spending time with her family. Matilde had a loving, bright personality and an innate sense of knowing when someone needed help. She was known for her gentle presence and comforting advice during difficult times, often reminding others to “Pray, and everything will be okay.”

She is survived by her husband, Freddy; her children, Allison, William, and Miguel with his wife, JJ; and her siblings, Ángel Andrade Burgoa, Enrique Espejo, and Rosa Espejo, as well as several nieces and nephews in the United States and Bolivia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jorge Espejo.

Con mucho tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de Matilde Espejo Lazcano, quien partió al encuentro del Señor el 7 de noviembre de 2025, en el Hospital de White Plains, rodeada de su familia, a la edad de 77 años. Nacida en Copacabana, Bolivia, se trasladó a Nueva York en 1979 junto a su amado esposo, Freddy Lazcano, con quien compartió 47 años de matrimonio y crió a sus tres hijos: Allison, William y Miguel.

Matilde fue una mujer profundamente religiosa y una devota miembra la iglesia Grace Church durante muchos años, dedicando su tiempo y energía a su parroquia y a la comunidad en general. Ayudó a organizar uno de los primeros servicios en español y lideró a un grupo de bolivianos de primera generación, brindando orientación, amistad y apoyo a quienes comenzaban una vida nueva en este país.

Su hogar siempre estuvo abierto, lleno de calidez, risas y el aroma de su cocina y repostería. Tenía una gran pasión por los perros, la pintura, el tejido, asistir a misa, y pasar tiempo con su familia. Matilde tenía una personalidad alegre y amorosa, y una sensibilidad especial para saber cuándo alguien necesitaba ayuda. Era conocida por su presencia gentil y sus consejos reconfortantes en momentos difíciles, recordando siempre a los demás que: “recen , y todo estará bien”.

Le sobreviven su esposo Freddy; sus hijos Allison, William y Miguel con su esposa JJ; y sus hermanos Ángel Andrade Burgoa, Enrique Espejo y Rosa Espejo, así como varios sobrinos y sobrinas en los Estados Unidos y en Bolivia. Le precedió en la muerte su hermano Jorge Espejo.

A visitation will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel-Hawthorne, located at 100 Saw Mill River Rd, Hawthorne, NY 10532, on November 20, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Requiem Service will take place at Grace Church / La Gracia, situated at 33 Church St, White Plains, NY 10601, on November 21, 2025, at 10:00 am.

A committal service will be conducted at Gate Of Heaven, 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532, on November 21, 2025, at 12:00 pm.
