RUDOLF OTTO MARKARD (1943-2023)
Rudolf Markard, [80], of Queens, New York, died at Stony Brook Hospital on Saturday, October 14, 2023 after a brief illness.
Rudy was born in New York Hospital on March 15, 1943 to Paula and Otto Markard and was the youngest of two sons. Rudy was preceded in death by both his parents, and is survived by his older brother Edgar Markard, and his sister-in-law. Rudy will be missed by his nieces and nephew, and well as his cousins in Germany.
Rudolf attended PS-90 as a child, and then Richmond Hill High School. He studied Liberal Arts at Queens College before joining the United States Coast Guard. As an adult, Rudy was a master carpenter, and loved to collect stamps, coins, and historical memorabilia. He was known for his great sense of humor and would never show up anywhere without delicious snacks and goodies, and treats from the German Smokehouse. Rudy was generous and kind and always brought a smile to our faces. He was a generous donor to charity, especially the U.S. Military Charities, Native American, and various others. Rudy was also a History buff and spent time with Columbia University Faculty to discuss World and US History. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends all over the United States and in Germany.
