Walter Wilms

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who peacefully passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Germany, Walter Wilms was one of nine children. His early years were marked by hardship, shaping the resilience, determination, and unwavering moral character that would define his life. In search of new opportunities, he immigrated to New York, where he worked tirelessly to build a better future.

After several years, he moved to Brazil, where through hard work and perseverance, he fulfilled one of his greatest accomplishments, building a house entirely with his own hands. Years later, he returned to New York, carrying with him not only the skills of a gifted craftsman but also a lifetime of experiences and cherished memories.

A remarkably talented artist and artisan, he had an extraordinary gift for working with his hands. Whether building, repairing, carving, or painting, there seemed to be nothing he couldn't create. His craftsmanship reflected not only his talent but also his patience, creativity, and attention to detail.

More importantly, just as he built a strong home, he built a strong foundation for his family, one grounded in love, integrity, sacrifice, and an unwavering work ethic.

Hard work was simply part of who he was. Rarely idle, he was always busy with a project, believing that honest work gave purpose to life. Yet he also knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, playing cards with family and friends, challenging others to a game of chess, woodcarving, painting, and pursuing countless creative projects. His hands were always creating, and his mind was always imagining what he could make next.

Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest accomplishment was not measured by what he built with his hands, but by the family he nurtured with his heart. His strength, wisdom, quiet generosity, and steadfast love created a legacy that will continue to guide future generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria; his three children, Brigitte and her spouse, Peter, Claudia and her spouse, Andrew, and Bryant and his partner, Skylar; his cherished

grandchildren, Caroline and her partner, Manu, Gabriel and his partner, Kayla, and Cassandra; his great-grandchild, Gavin; and many extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we are profoundly grateful for the 93 years we were blessed to share with him. His life reminds us that true wealth is found not in possessions but in hard work, honesty, resilience, and the love of family. The values he lived by and the example he set will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, on August 4th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Following the service, he will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
