William Trace, age 92, of Glendale NY, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 21st 2020. He was born Dec. 28, 1927 in Nanticoke, PA and moved to Toms River NJ as a teenager. He graduated from high school at age 16, served in the Merchant Marines for 2 years, and at age 18, moved to Brooklyn, NY to attend College. It was there that he met the love of his life, who he would marry and spend 71 happy years with.
He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War then returned to his bride, and finished his education. Bill worked for Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years and on retirement, was the proprietor, with his wife Pat, of Glendale Card & Gift Shop.
They lived in Glendale for over 60 years where they raised 4 children and he was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish. He gave back to his community as a swimming coach, Past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, volunteered at his church’s homeless shelter and many other charitable organizations. Most importantly he gave of himself everyday, showing kindness and respect to everyone he encountered. He was a soft spoken level headed man but by no means shy. He was known for his keen sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Elizabeth Trace, son, William T. Trace, daughter, Mary Ellen Rhindress and her husband Paul Rhindress, daughter Patricia A. Trace and her husband Kenneth Robinson, and son James P. Trace. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Kathryn Rhindress, Sara Richard, Marie Robinson, Grace Robinson, Kevin Robinson, and Michael Rhindress as well as one great grandson Owen Butler.
