Born on September 6, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, William grew up in a bustling borough that shaped his enduring love for the city and its people. His early years were marked by resilience and dedication—qualities that would define his life. Known affectionately as “Lefty,” William had a deep passion for baseball. A die-hard Mets fan—though he also rooted for the Yankees—he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams. “In that order,” he would always say with a smile when asked about his loyalties.
William served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. His military service was a source of immense pride throughout his life. He carried the values of duty and commitment with him long after his time in uniform ended.
A devoted family man, William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara Wilson, and their son Bruce Wilson. He is remembered with love by his children: William Wilson Jr., Brian (Rose) Wilson, Scott (Cindy) Wilson, and Kelly Carr (née Wilson), along with her husband Edward Carr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Samantha Reeb-Wilson, Melissa Avgerinos, Jesse Wilson, Emma Wilson, Amanda Hogue, Robert Hogue, Alexis Carr, and Scott Wilson and great-grandchildren Caitlyn Avgerinos, Molly Avgerinos, Charlotte Avgerinos, Milo Avgerinos, , Kaiden Carr, Ryland Castellano, Lennox Castellano and Audrey Rose Wilson.
William also leaves behind his sister Margaret Korzenko. He was predeceased by his brothers Vincent Wilson, Robert Wilson, and John Wilson; and sisters Joan Berdini, Dorothy Handlin, and Patricia Herrera.
William’s life was one of steadfast devotion—to country, to family, and to the simple joys that made each day meaningful. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire generations to come.
