
Potter, Kathleen W., Died unexpectedly on September 17, 2011 in Surprise, Arizona from a stroke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Patricia Rae Potter of Golden, Colorado. She is survived by her three sons: Michael Winkelmann of South Jordan, Utah, Joseph Patrick Winkelmann of Bethalto, Illinois, and Jeffrey Theodore Winkelmann of Kingman, Arizona; and two brothers, Dennis L. Potter of Morrison, Colorado and Kevin L. Potter of Conifer, Colorado. Kathy was born on March 17, 1951 in Denver, Colorado and raised in Golden. She graduated from Golden High School in 1969, earning certification in the National Honor Society and was awarded the Methodist Bishop Academic Scholarship. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for two years before transferring to the University of Utah where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Special Education in 1979. She later obtained a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado in 1997, and did additional graduate work at Adams State College in Colorado. In 1971, she married Steven Paul Winkelmann and moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She divorced Steven in 1991. Kathy chose to devote the rest of her life to teaching. She began her career at an elementary school in Trumbull, Connecticut in 1980 and finished it in 2010 at Euclid Middle School in Littleton, Colorado. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Kathy will be remembered for her individuality, beauty, humor, strength of character and her special commitment for the well being of her sons. She had a zest and enthusiasm for life that was contagious and a passion for experiencing all life could offer. Her family requests that donations be made in her name to the National Stroke Association in Centennial, Colorado. Her services are scheduled for November 26 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Woods Mortuary in Golden with internment to follow at the Golden Cemetery.
