

She was born in Beech Grove, Indiana, on October 24, 1949, one of five children to the late Leonard and Bernice Nelson. She went to high school in Indiana but finished her academic career at Webster University by receiving a Master’s degree.
Mary had a career in Publishing, working for Accent Books, as well in Human Resources in the medical field. She had a passion for outdoor activities, hiking and camping, flying, reading and her beloved cats. When Mary was young, she dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot or an astronaut. Later in life, she earned her Pilot’s license and received Instrument Rating as part of receiving her private pilot license, never letting go of her dreams and passions.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Lester Nelson and Bernice Irene Dalton Nelson, and her brother Bill Nelson. She is survived by her sisters Betty Flinn of Columbus, Ohio and Henrietta Cook of Greenwood, Indiana and brother Tom Nelson of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Services for Mary will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Olinger Woods Chapel with a Visitation from 9am – 10am, Funeral Service from 10am – 11am, Burial at Golden Cemetery at 11am with a reception to follow at Olinger Woods Chapel.
