Olga was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on April 18th, 1934. She grew up in a small hamlet, Stechovice, just 20 km upriver from the Prague city limits. Olga survived both the German and Soviet invasions of her home country during World War II. Unfortunately, the family’s extensive baking business was confiscated by the Soviets during their occupation. At the age of 16, Olga met her husband, Edward G. Trousil, at a dance class and they were married on February 16th, 1957. Since Edward was a naturalized US Citizen, Olga was able to escape the Iron Curtain and immigrate to Chicago in 1957.
With her family’s background in baking, Olga was known for her Czech pastries. Two of her favorites were her poppy seed kolaches and apple strudel. Eventually, Olga and her husband settled with their three loving children, Ed, Paul and Renee, in Colorado where they enjoyed mushroom hunting and the great outdoors. Olga lived in Colorado the rest of her life.
Olga is predeceased in death by her husband, Edward, and brother, Joseph. She is survived by her sons, Ed and Paul; a daughter, Renee Bratvold; daughter in-laws Cheri Trousil and Peggy Trousil; son-in-law Mike Bratvold and five grandchildren; Jay Trousil, Eric Trousil, Emily Trousil, Krista Bratvold and Evan Bratvold.
A funeral service will be held at the Holy Ghost Church located in downtown Denver on Thursday, August 13th, 2015 at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow in the church followed by a private burial service in Arvada.
