Alvin peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, February 3rd, surrounded by his family. He was a native and lifelong resident of St. Gabriel, Louisiana. Alvin was born on March 21, 1934 to W. L. and Enerva Savoie White and was married to Ellen Ourso White for sixty years. They had one daughter, Lori White Layman. Alvin joined the Navy where he served from 1954 to 1958. Throughout his life, Alvin worked for Price Leblanc, who was like a second father to him, the Iberville Parish Sherriff’s Office as a Deputy and along with his wife, owned Lori’s Restaurant in St. Gabriel for 28 years. “Red White” as he was affectionately known was larger than life, and his love of family, friends and country was well known. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved LSU and NASCAR. A true country boy, Alvin enjoyed caring for his land and his livestock. His most joyous times were spent supporting his grandchildren, Brandon and Taylor, in all their activities. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter Lori and husband Brian; grandchildren, Corporal Brandon Layman, USMC (fiancée Beatriz Acosta) and Taylor Armstreet (husband, Joshua), who were his pride and joy; brothers, Louis Ray (Thadis) and Allen (Loretta); brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgie LeBlanc, Tommy and Gail Sanders, Clinton and Susan Ourso, and Mary White; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Shirlyn; sister, Irene Gillespie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pierre and Marjorie Ourso; brother-in-law, Theodore LeBlanc; and nephew, Ted LeBlanc, Jr. Pallbearers will be Brandon Layman, Joshua Armstreet, Ryan Rome, David White, Jimmy LeBlanc, Clint Ourso, Jr., Randy White, Will Smith and Wes Self. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 6th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church from 5 PM to 8 PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday, February, 7th at 9 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM celebrated by Father Charlie Landry. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel Cemetery.
