Andrew was born on Halloween in 1938. He often said, as was his typical fashion, that his mother got a trick instead of a treat. Andrew was the second of seven children, five boys and two girls. His early days were spent at the family home on Tchoupitoulas St in New Orleans. They would later move out to Arnoult Road in Jefferson La. It was here that the family would remain as each child grew and moved out to raise families of their own. It was a special place of many family gatherings and fond remembrances of sharing some of Grandma Pearl's delicious cooking. Andrew spent his formative years in Jefferson and attended St. Agnes Catholic School where the family were members of the congregation.
Andrew always took pride in his family. He was very close to his siblings His older brother Charles and his next younger brother Lawrence were often his co-conspirators in their daily adventures. He was instrumental in the raising of his other younger siblings Shirley, Agnes, Harold and Henry. The youngest three especially after the death of his father O.J. Landry at the young age of 55.
During his early years he was very much into cars and motorcycles. While working on these he honed his abilities to fix broken things this would portend things to come. Andrew spent most of his career in various maintenance occupations such as welding and glass installation ultimately becoming head of maintenance by the end of his career.
Andrew married Mary Evelyn Dunn in a small ceremony surrounded by friends and family at the home of Mary's parents in Summit Ms on July 13th, 1963. They honeymooned in Chattanooga Tn. where they got lost in fog and couldn't find the place that they had reserved. They were able to secure a room ofter much looking and enjoyed 57yrs of wedded bliss. After the honeymoon Mary and Andrew moved back to an area that Andrew knew well, Jefferson La. They lived in a two bedroom duplex on Sizler St. While living here they welcomed their first born child. Richard Oville Landry was born on Feb 27th, 1964 and was named after his grandfathers. Shortly after his birth a new chapter was opened and the family moved to a new house in Avondale La. While at this location they would celebrate the birth of their second and last child Sarah Lynn Landry on Feb 2nd 1967. During this time Andrew worked at Rheem MFG in Jefferson La at the same facility that several of his family members including his father and brother worked. In 1974 Andrew's nomadic spirit was awakened and moved the family to Mary's hometown of Summit Ms. Andrew took to country living like a duck to water. In no time he was growing vegetables in the backyard and driving a tractor. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in Summit. He became best friends with his neighbor Joe Ben Pezant and they spent countless days hunting, fishing and other tom foolery.
Once Richard and Sarah had moved from the family home the wandering spirit came to Andy and Mary. They first followed Sarah and David to the Mississippi Gulf Coast as they started their new family. Trey and Drew Heximer would be born during this time. Later new jobs would take them to Salisbury, North Carolina. After many years they decided that they wanted to be closer to their family and transferred to Pearl Mississippi where they once again enjoyed living in the country. After retiring they made the final move to Port Vincent Louisiana to be next door neighbors with Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Francis.
It would be here that they would settle and enjoy the retired life of leisure. Andrew developed a passion for doing woodworking projects and spent hours building things that Mary would find on the internet. He would also play golf with Richard when they could find the time and was very proud that he was still able to get around the course after he turned 80 years old.
Andrew was a simple man with simple taste. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether it be at the hunting camp, a family reunion, or at his house while he fried up a batch of fish and told stories. He was always a gracious host and loved to make people laugh and feel at ease. He was the clown of his group down at the YMCA trying to do his part and make exercising fun.
