

A native of Jasper, Texas and a resident of Gonzales passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Gonzales at the age of 67. She was a former teacher at St. Amant High School where she was head of the History Department. She was named in Who's Who Among American Teachers 2 times. Visitation will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales from 9:00 am until a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am celebrated by Rev. Alec Sheldon. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery, La. Hwy. 405, Plaquemine, La. She is survived by her husband John Alvery Richard Hebert, Sr. of Gonzales, 2 daughters, Elizabeth Hebert Harris and spouse John Harris of Gonzales and Meredith Louise Hebert of Gonzales, 1 son, John A.R. Hebert, Jr. of Gonzales, 1 sister and 2 brothers-in-law: Laura Lee Mays and Dr. Max Mays of Lake Jackson, Texas and Mike Hayes of Buffalo, NY, 1 brother and sister-in-law: Max Alvis & Honey Alvis of Jasper, Texas and 2 grandchildren: William Nathaniel Harris and Julia Isabelle Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lee Roy and Ola Mae Maxwell Alvis and her twin sister Louise Alvis Hayes. Pallbearers will be John A.R. Hebert, Jr., John Harris, Seth Mixson, Jared Mixson, Freddie Williams and Adam Percy. She was a 1969 graduate of Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, La. and Co-Founder of the Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs.
