Mr. Antoine Kling Jr., affectionately known as “AJ” to family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 97. He was born on December 30, 1928, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was a life-long resident of Sorrento, Louisiana.
AJ was a man of intellect, integrity, and a deep sense of right and wrong. After earning his law degree from Louisiana State University, he built a distinguished career as an attorney and later as a judge, serving others with fairness, compassion, and quiet strength. He also proudly served on the Sorrento Town Council and was a dedicated member of the Sorrento Lions Club, always willing to give his time to support and improve his community.
His faith was a guiding force throughout his life. AJ was a devout member of St. Anne Catholic Church, where he spent many years serving as a lector. He found great meaning in his church and in living out his faith each day.
Above all, AJ was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Kling; his sons, Eric Kling (Darnell) and Shawn Kling (Lori); his grandchildren, Erica, Aaron, Maeghen, Nathan, and Landon; and six great-grandchildren who will continue his legacy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Antoine and Armantine Kling, sister Ethel Vicknair, and brother John Gerald Kling.
He found joy in the simple, everyday moments—spending time in his garden, caring for his cows, and being close to the land he loved.
AJ will be remembered for his wisdom, steady presence, and the love he showed to his family and community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on May 8, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM. A Committal Service will take place afterward at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery & Mausoleum.
His life was a beautiful reflection of faith, service, and love.
