Benny Roger Stanley

Benny R. Stanley, a resident of St. Amant, LA, passed away on November 25, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 22, 1946, in Akron, OH. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, from 3 pm to 9 pm. He graduated from St. Amant High School and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years and was awarded the Purple Heart. From the age of 13, Benny spent his time as a musician and entertained people of all ages. He loved making people happy. In 1994, he was awarded the People's Choice Award by the Music Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Louisiana Purple Heart Association . He is survived by his wife, Beverly Bourque Stanley; his son, Casey Laiche and fiancé, Tally Barnett; his daughter, Christie O'dell and husband, Odie; sister, Karie Rhodes and husband, Shane. He is also survived by his grandchildren¸Casey Laiche, Jr. (C.J.), Miranda Laiche, Blaire O'dell, Brady O'dell, Jamon Cornett and Abbie Nixon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Toni and Russell Whelchel and stepfather, Windom Berteau. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve and to the staff at Amedisys and to his hospice nurse, Jay, who became a good friend to Benny.
