

Betty Joyce Gautreau, 93, of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose gentle spirit, community involvement and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betty spent 35 years as a school bus driver for Ascension Parish schools. She took pride in serving families in her community, especially through her involvement with St. Mark and St. Theresa of Avila Catholic churches, along with St. Theresa schools.
Over the years, she loved spending time fishing and camping, tending to her garden, playing cards, bowling and making memories with family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing stories with loved ones.
She is survived by her children, Steve Gautreau (Marsha), Diane Gautreau Delatte (Anthony), Gregg Gautreau (Peggy), Bryant Gautreau (Anita) and Chris Gautreau (Lara).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marci Gautreau Melancon, Damon Gautreau,Chase Delatte, Alicia Delatte Creehan, Dane Gautreau, Carly Gautreau Smith, Beau Gautreau, Bryce Gautreau, Jolie Gautreau and Noel Gautreau; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister Laurie Gautreau Elisar; and her brothers Leon Gautreau, Allen Gautreau and Remi Gautreau.
She was preceded in death her parents, Hyson Gautreau and Jeanne Bourgeois Gautreau; her husband, LaVerne Paul Gautreau; her brothers, Joe Gautreau and Charlie Gautreau; and her sisters Annie Mayer and Jeannette Delaune.
Serving as pallbearers are Beau Gautreau, Dane Gautreau, Bryce Gautreau, Damon Gautreau, Chase Delatte and Jason Melancon. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Gautreau, Jeff Mayer and Jody Elisar.
The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Betty’s sitter, Rose Hall, for her genuine love and devoted care and, most of all, her friendship. The family also expresses gratitude to Betty’s siblings, their children and countless friends and relatives who also supported her, along with volunteers from St. Mark who delivered communion.
Visitation will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, 42021 LA-621, Gonzales, LA 70737, US, on June 15, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at St. Mark Catholic Church at 11:00 am.Betty will be laid next to her beloved husband at Hope Haven Garden of Memory, 604 E. Hwy 30, Gonzales.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to send donations to Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to continue Betty and LaVerne’s legacy of community support.
