Billie Gautreau Petit passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on August 7, 2022, at the age of 90. In 1950, she graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge. She was married to John “JC” Petit for 71 years. They shared many hobbies, including; fishing, Cajun dancing, reading the newspaper, doing word puzzles daily, praying the Rosary, and watching Western movies.
Crocheting gifts for loved ones always brought her great joy, and spending time with family and friends was most special to her. A life-long member of the Roman-Catholic faith, Billie served as a Eucharistic Minister; was a member of the St. Rose de Lima and St. Anne/St. Anthony Catholic Daughters; and was a member of the KC Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by daughters Marilynn Welch and Mara Bourgeois, grandson Jeremy Welch, parents Joseph “Bill” and Johnnie Gautreau, sister Bobbie Demars and brother Arthur “Buddy” Gautreau.
She is survived by daughters Madeline Landry (Mike), Marlene Bruce (Larry), and Marsha Schexnayder (Pat), many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a very special neighborhood family.
She was Mama and Mawmaw to many.
Services will be held on August 13, 2022, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento. Family and friends are invited to pray the Rosary led by the Catholic daughters at 8:30 am, visitation will begin at 9:00 until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anne Catholic Church Sorrento or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
