

Buren Joseph Gautreau passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. Buren was born on November 24, 1926 in Gonzales, Louisiana and was a life-long resident of St. Amant and Gonzales. He was a life-long member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6389. He retired from the Parish of Ascension as a grader driver and was a long time employee of Stevens Meat Company, having worked there over 25 years prior to its closing. He was also an Ammunition Bearer and a Rifle Marksman in Company B with the 1st Cavalry Division during World War II.
Visitation will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, on Thursday, April 27, 2017 beginning at 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm conducted by Reverend Donald Blanchard. Entombment to follow in Holy Rosary cemetery.
He was preceded in death exactly one month earlier by the love of his life, Catherine Bourgeois Gautreau, to whom he was married for 65 years. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Minks; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Michael Johnston; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jill Clouatre Gautreau; grandchildren Shayne Minks, Jodi Minks, Keeley Peterman, Alyse Alford, Titan Gautreau and Terez Gautreau and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Berlin “Plug” Gautreau.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oreal Gautreau and Lelia Babin Gautreau; as well as his siblings, Gerald, Herald, Geneva, Leo, Lorita and Elray.
Arrangements are being handled through Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Shayne Minks, Jodi Minks, Keeley Peterman, Alyse Alford, Titan Gautreau, Terez Gautreau, and Able Minks. The family wishes to thank caregivers (Kathleen, Monica and Charlene), family and friends who offered their support during his illness, including Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Barry and Kayla, as well as Dr. Glen Schwartzberg and Jackie.
