Carl Thorsen, 68, a native of Natick, Mass., and resident of Prairieville and Tylertown, Miss., passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Baton Rouge. He was a self-employed artist and blacksmith. He was an Air Force veteran. Private memorial services will be held at a later date in Panama City Beach, Fla. Survived by his wife, Rebecca Parker Thorsen, of Prairieville; daughter in California; sister, Lynn Levasseur, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and brother, James H. Thorsen, of Las Vegas. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl Kent Thorsen Jr. and M.J. Evelyn Hall Thorsen; and numerous aunts and uncles. He enjoyed doing metal work, formerly owned a sculpting shop in LaPlace called Beyond Craft, made woven wall tapestries which earned him some awards and had a metal fish sculpture in the Greater Baton Rouge Zoo.
