Carmel Duplessis "Doot" Madere passed away Monday, March 14, 2011, surrounded by her loving family in Darrow. She was 76 and a native and resident of Darrow. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carmel and Tommy Prejean, Trudy and Brian Burnett and Patty and Ricky Boudreaux; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Tressie Burns Madere; two sisters, Carolee "Boofy" Smiley and Claire Black; a brother, Burt Duplessis; 14 grandchildren, Trish P. Bayhi, Tonya, T.J., Toby, Tyler, Travis and Terry Prejean, Amanda, Jeremy and Justin Burnett, Leslie B. Buratt, Kacee, Nikki and Kelsey Boudreaux; and eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Cade Buratt, Ryleigh Moran, Emily Couvillion, Tristen and Taylor Bayhi, Layni Parker and Ethan Prejean. Preceded in death by her husband, Boyce P. Madere; parents, W.I. "Bris" Duplessis and Louise Bourgeois Duplessis; granddaughter, Alana Burnett; and sister, Carolyn "Toe-Toe" Smiley. Pallbearers will be T.J., Tyler, Travis, Terry and Toby Prejean, Jeremy and Justin Burnett. Mrs. Carmel loved cooking, sewing and spending time with her family. Special thanks to her caretaker, Janice Peltier. Visiting at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Darrow, on Thursday, March 17, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jerry Young and the Rev. Michael Galea.
