Catha Elise Gaines Duhe, 74, peacefully entered eternal rest at her home in Gonzales, LA. on Tuesday, September 2, 2020, with her husband and children by her side. She was born on July 25, 1946 in Baton Rouge, LA by her parents, the late Alphred Alverson Gaines and Grace Lee Catha Gaines, and her sister, the late Mary Ann Laurent. Catha was a 1964 graduate of Baton Rouge High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University followed by a Master of Education from LSU. After retirement, becoming a “Mema” to her 7 beautiful grandchildren became her greatest joy, as well as a passion for scrapbooking to which she lovingly created numerous books of memories for her family that will always be cherished. Catha is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Rayford James “R.J.” Duhe; three children: Randy Duhe (Jennifer) of Prairieville, LA, Michael Duhe (Kyla) of Walker, LA, and Leigh Ann Duhe-Heinse (Matt) of Baton Rouge, LA.; and 7 grandchildren: Marcus Heinse, Matthew Heinse, Jonas Duhe, Julian Duhe, Abram Duhe, Maher Heinse, and Rosalie Duhe. Sharing with her immediate family in mourning are many brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. I had many memories of Catha as she was my cousin and came to Wyoming every summer. I also remember coming down to Baton Rouge and staying with her and her going with us on trips to New Orleans. I wish I could tell you the stories I have but there are to many to write about. I wish I would of Taken the time to come and visited with her. She will always be in my thoughts and my prayers go out to the family.

Dear RJ and family. Cathy was always very kind and thoughtful. I know Daddy always spoke highly of her and we know she was loved by many. Please accept Mom and my condolences.

Mrs. Duhe’ was my kindergarten teacher in 1979. She was also my co-worker years later at Lake. To me, she was the perfect kindergarten teacher; sweet, kind, loving, but also firm. She fostered my love of school and learning, and was a big part of why I became a teacher❤️

I worked with Catha at Lake Elementary. She was a wonderful Kindergarten teacher who touched many lives. I will always remember how kind she was.
My deepest sympathy to her family. May God bring you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

She was such a good friend at Baton Rouge High School and later at Southeastern. We both loved teaching. Condolence to RJ and her children. She loved her Grandchildren very much. I will miss her and the wonderful pictures of her family.

She was one of the kindest people in my life. Knew how to handle all kinds of children, including (especially) those with what would come to be called ADHD.

I, for one, will miss her greatly.

I met Catha through our mutual friend Valine, while scrapbooking and she became so dear to me as she did to so many. I know she will be missed by so many who loved her--my thoughts and prayers are with you all!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I taught at Lake Elementary with Catha, played Pokeno with her, and visited with her at lunches with our retired teachers group. I will always remember her beauty both inside and out, her kindness, patience, and her sense of humor. She was truly a treasure! May God bless sweet Catha and her family.

"Miss Gaines" was my favorite teacher ever. Poor Dear, she got me as a student during her first year teaching at St. Amant Elementary. I was that kid. You know the one. After getting me, I'm surprised she stayed for a second year. Mrs. Duhe was a fabulous teacher. I loved her as my teacher and as my coworker at Lake Elementary. (She should have spanked me, I was so bad)
