A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Claude passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was 80 and a longtime resident of Gonzales. Claude was born in Church Point on August 22, 1934 to Nolton and Ezor Cormier Babineaux. He retired as a Maintenance Supervisor with Southern Maintenance Incorporated and had served in the United States Army as a Staff Sargent. Claude had left a large footprint of service in the City of Gonzales where he served on numerous Boards and Councils. He was a member of the Gonzales Hall of Fame, S.A.L.T., and served on the City of Gonzales Planning and Zoning Commission. He was also very devoted in the community having been a Boy Scout Leader and in the St. Theresa Council 2657 Knights of Columbus for 40 years was a member of the 4th Degree. Claude was also a past K.C. Grand Knight. He also began the Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet to honor those who serve our community. He was longtime member of St. Theresa Church and served as an Usher. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Donachricha Babineaux; sons, Anthony Keith Babineaux (Carol Chidester), Brian Joseph Babineaux (Kellie McAlum), and Dwayne Paul Babineaux (Jossette Savoie); sister, Lea Ann Lejeune (Raymond); brothers, Forrest Babineaux (Juanita), Nolan Babineaux (Gwen); and Charles Babineaux (Karen); nine grandchildren, Alysha Terry, Karen Watson, Brittany, Joseph, Jackson, Matthew, Benjamin, Jacob, and Nicholas Babineaux; two great grandchildren, Anna and Chase Watson; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Lois Prejean Babineaux and his parents. Visitation will be Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Friday, January 23 from 5 pm to 9 pm and will resume on Saturday at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church from 8:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 pm in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, 6080 Mire Highway, Mire, LA 70525. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers and great grandson, Chase Watson will serve as honorary pallbearer.
