

Claude Larry Taylor, a native of Baton Rouge and a longtime resident of Saint Amant La. He passed away on March 8, 2026. He was 99 years old. He was a retiree of Copolymer, and Barnard and Burk Engineers and Constructors where he was Vice President and General Manager of Engineering. While at Barnard and Burk he served as a volunteer staff member for United Way reaching out to other companies to set up donation campaigns to support United Way programs. He graduated from Saint Amant H.S. in 1943 and L.S.U. in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a registered professional engineer and a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society. He served his country in the Navy during WW-II and the Korean Conflict. After completing the navy's electrician school, he was assigned to the USS Bond (an active mine sweeper) in the Aleutians and on two LSM landing ships in the Pacific: the Marshall Islands, the Philippines, Okinawa, the occupation of Japan, and peace keeping missions in Japan and China. He also served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict; participating in the invasion of Inchon, Korea; on the USS Cacapon (a fleet tanker) and the USS Hector (a repair ship) with duties off both coasts of Korea and Japan. His ship made a vital contribution to the success of the Marine's evacuation of Chosin Reservoir and Hungnan, North Korea in 1950. Upon returning home he began working at The Louisiana Creamery where he met the love of his life Wilma Gueringer Taylor and made her his bride for 71 years until her death on March 8, 2025. He was a charter member of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Baton Rouge where for 29 years he was very active in several ministries. He was honored to be selected into the first group of men to serve as an Extraordinary Minister. Upon his retirement he and Wilma moved to St. Amant where they were members of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Sorrento where they were both active. Since 2004 he has been a member of Saint Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales, where he and Wilma served in several ministries. He is Survived by four children, his oldest Daughter Alice Taylor Blair; her late husband Deacon William "Bill" Blair: their son Byron Blair, his wife Ashleigh and daughter Kayt and sons Liam and Luke. His Son Paul Taylor: his wife Roslyn; and their son Timothy Taylor, his wife Lindsey, their daughter Blake and son Brayden, and their daughter Kristin Gregoire and her husband Donovan, their daughter Adaline and son Wyatt. A second daughter: Nedda Taylor, her son Michael Taylor and his wife Lauren. The youngest daughter, Jeri Taylor; wife Diane and Two special great-great grandchildren Ryatt "Bubba" and Liliam "Cissy" Powers. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Wilma Gueringer Taylor. His parents: Claude Lee Taylor and Alvine Gilbert Taylor of Saint Amant; son in law William Blair; granddaughter Rebecca Elizabeth Blair of Gonzales; his in-laws David Edwin Gueringer and Edine Guillot Gueringer of Marksville. Visitation at Saint Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales, La from 9am to 10:45am on Wednesday March 11, 2026 with a eulogy by Jeri Taylor at 10:45am and Mass of Christian burial at 11am. Mass celebrated by Fr. Matthew McCaughey. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Mausoleum, Saint Amant La. Pallbearers Paul Taylor, Byron Blair, Timothy Taylor, Michael Taylor, Donovan Gregorie, John Peter Gagnard, Raymond Dyer, Mike Taylor, Brayden Taylor, Ryatt Powers.
