Cliston retired after 34 years from Exxon Chemical Plant, where he worked as a mechanical engineer and outside contract supervisor. He loved Cajun culture, music, and food. His native language was Cajun French, and he played in numerous Cajun bands, including Mitch Landry and the Cajun Ramblers. In 1989, they recorded an album titled Pays des Cajuns. He also hosted a Saturday morning Cajun radio show for WSLG and worked as a DJ. Cliston loved the outdoors, camping, and teaching the younger generation how to cook. He was especially known for his jambalaya, steak and gravy, cochon de lait, and pork back stew.
In his early years, he also served as a volunteer fireman with the Prairieville Fire Department. He had a strong Christian faith and was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. More importantly, he had a deep relationship with God. Cliston was one of the founding members of Knights of Columbus Council 8342, serving as grand knight, district deputy, and State Family Chairman. He was a former board member and the Louisiana Knights of Columbus State Chairman for St. Mary's Residential Community and Services. He was also a 4th Degree Knight, usher, Eucharistic minister, and part of a team that built ramps and repaired homes for the elderly and disabled. He also served on mission trips to Mexico.
Cliston had the heart of Jesus in serving others, always ready to help others. He lovingly nicknamed himself “Dr. Daddy” because he could fix almost anything. If something was broken, he never turned anyone away. He was also a master at woodworking, known for his creativity and attention to detail. He enjoyed making personalized furniture and gifts for his family and his church. Cliston will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his impersonations, and his ability to entertain and bring joy to those around him.
The outpouring of love and support from family and friends through food, time, and prayers has been greatly appreciated. A special thank you goes to Pinnacle Hospice for their care, compassion, and comfort during his final days.
