Gary “Pops” Braud was surrounded by his loving family when he peacefully left this earth to meet his maker Jesus Christ. He made it to heaven just in time to share 3:00 coffee with his wife Marie. Gary was a native of Dutchtown, where he spent a very active 85 years. He graduated from Dutchtown High School in 1956 where he met his love Marie Ray. They were married in 1958 and had 5 children. He was a loving and faithful husband, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. After graduating from Dutchtown, where he never missed a day of school, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He was stationed in Okinawa Japan and was on active duty until 1962. He was a very proud man who loved his country to the fullest. Hearing the National Anthem would bring tears to his eyes. Over the years Gary worked at Bordens Dairy, Ormet Chemical and Copolymer Rubber as an outside machinist. He retired from Copolymer after 32 years. After retirement he worked for 18 years, until his final day, at Elegant Affairs as their favorite employee behind the bar serving drinks with a smile. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marie Ray Braud, his parents Yve and Una Braud Braud, his brother Marion “Putsy” Braud, inlaws Henry and Earlene Cambre Ray. He leaves behind a sister Dianne “Tootie” Bourque (Vicky) and sisters in law Lillie Frederic (James "Feet"), Gail Braud and Patsy Ray and a brother in law Howard Ray (Becky). Pops leaves behind 5 children to cherish his memory, his only daughter Dana Braud Lipoma (Chris Donley) and 4 sons; Ricky (Tracey), Darren (LaNita), Dean (Ellen) and Yve (Sam), 13 grandchildren; Tiffany, Danny (Kim), Taryn (Jeff), Fallon, Patrick (Brittany), Sabrina, Daigre (Lauren), Shelby, Taylor, Baige (Dillon), Dylan, Sloane (Collin) and Dallas, 22 great grandchildren, John Paul "JP", Andrew, Lillian, Conley, Cohen, Abigail, Jax, Finley, Briar, Ethan, Coby, Jolene, Layla, Josie, Kenley, Jason "JJ", Brady, Ronnie, Adleigh, Kyleigh, Hayleigh, Lucas and numerous nieces and nephews. Pops lived a full life up until the end. He loved all things old; old houses, old pictures, old country music and especially old cars. He was currently building a 1932 Steel Body Ford Roadster. His love of old cars led him to being a life time member of the NSRA and took him to many car events throughout the USA where he made plenty of friends. His family also held several Rod Runs in his honor at his home. After work was done, Pops loved to drink a Miller Lite in his shop that he built with his kids. He never failed to share his mechanical wisdom with anyone who wanted to learn. He was always there with a firm handshake, hug and a kiss, and of course that famous “Hey Sha”. He had a smile that lit up the room and greeted everyone who visited. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Sunday Dec 19th from 5-8pm and will continue on Monday Dec 20th from 8-10:30am at Ourso then a Christian mass, officiated by Father Martin, will take place at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with burial to follow at Hope Haven Mausoleum behind St. John in Prairieville, La.
