Gerald “Jerry” Achee’, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a true Louisiana sportsman at heart, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the age of 85, with his wife, children, and closest friend by his side.
Born on November 18, 1940, Jerry spent his life embracing the beauty and bounty of Louisiana’s outdoors. He was happiest with a fishing rod in his hand or a shotgun by his side. Whether he was waking up before dawn to catch the morning flight of ducks in the swamp, trolling for redfish in the coastal waters of Grand Isle with his best friend Don, or freezing his butt off in a deer stand in the woods outdoors was his true sanctuary. He was a true practitioner of the “Sportsman’s Paradise” way of life.
Beyond his passion for the outdoors, Jerry spent numerous hours drawing and painting the bayous, swamps, and wildlife he truly loved. He was an avid reader and passed his love of books on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his generous spirit and quick wit, he could cook up the best catch of the day for family and friends.
Jerry passed on his love of athletics, work ethic, and strong will to his children and spent many weekends of their childhood on the deck of a poolside or softball field cheering them on. Later in life, he enjoyed hunting for big game in the forests of Nebraska with his wife Sally and stepson Jim or traveling the Northwest to soak in its beauty.
He leaves behind a legacy of outdoor adventures, grit, and unconditional love. Along with his love of the outdoors, he also loved the LSU Tigers and the Catholic High Bears. Jerry attended Catholic High from 4th grade until graduation and was active in the Catholic High Men’s Club. Jerry went on to attend LSU and worked throughout his career in the numerous chemical plants of south Louisiana, spending his last 25 years plus working as a project manager at Oxy Chem.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sally Easterwood Achee’; sister, Dorothy Achee’ Gianelloni; children, Sheila Ann Achee’ (spouse Karla Kirkpatrick) and Wendy Lea Achee’; grandchildren, Alice Achee’ Price (spouse Jacob Price) and Kenley Reagan Welch; and great grandson’s, Zayden Michael Price and Zane Wyatt Price; and his best friend Don Veilleux and wife Meme Veilleux; and numerous brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Reine Achee’; parents, Camile Joseph “CJ” Achee’ and Louisa Dorothy Landry Achee; sister, Maureen Patricia LeBlanc; and stepson Jim Easterwood.
A celebration of life and final send-off will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Catholic High School scholarship fund in memory of Gerald F. Achee’.
