Harlan Anthony Poche, 78, of Geismar, Louisiana, passed away on April 24, 2026. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late Herman Poche and Jean Cook Poche. Harlan lived a life defined by love, laughter, strength, and dedication to his family.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa for most of his tour. Following his military service, he spent his career working in the construction and engineering industry and retired from Ford, Bacon and Davis. However, Harlan’s true legacy was built at home.
He found immense joy in the outdoors, whether he was spending time working in the yard or on a fishing trip. He enjoyed cooking, especially making blueberry pancakes for his grandchildren and boiling seafood at family gatherings. He was a gifted and resourceful handyman, spending many hours tinkering in his workshop. He was known by his loved ones as the man who could fix nearly anything that was broken. He dedicated much of his time working in his vegetable garden, taking special pride in his hard work and eagerly sharing his harvest with anyone who would visit. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy measured not only in accomplishments but also by the wisdom he shared, the stories he told and the love that he gave.
Harlan is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Janis Lockwood Poche; his children, Rodney Michael Poche (Tricia) and Kristy Poche Anthony (Rob); his five cherished grandchildren, Claire Poche, Courtney Poche, Katelyn Anthony, Camille Anthony, and Luke Anthony; and his siblings, Judy Poche Templet, Joe Poche, Tina Poche Faucheux and sister in law, Pat Brussack and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who were lucky enough to know him.
Pallbearers will be Joe Poche, Perry Templet, Rodney Poche, Rob Anthony, Sean Woodring, Perry Templet Jr., Aron Matassa and Luke Anthony.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29 from 10:00am-11:30am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, Louisiana followed by a funeral mass.
Interment will then be held at Hope Haven Garden of Memories.
