

Helen Jean Gutenkauf passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 93. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on May, 18, 1929 and was a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana for the past 46 years.
Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In her younger years she worked as a telephone operator, nurse aide, and owned and operated a grocery store with her husband Gary. She also was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Helen had a great sense of humor and could always put a smile on your face with her witty personality. Her interests included sewing, reading, gardening, sports and classic movies. Helen's motto was "you have to make your own fun".
Helen is survived by her daughters, Diane Babin (Louis) and Donna Boudreaux (David); her son-in-law, Paul Avery; her grandchildren, Heather Babin, Danielle Luke (Michael), Scott Babin (Amy), Ryan Boudreaux (Kayla), Justin Boudreaux (Shelbi) and Lisa Graifer (Jim) and her great-granchildren; Olivia, Sophie, Nora, Carter, Nolan, Ridge, Emery, Owen and Evan.
She was preceded in death by her husband the late Gerhard (Gary) W. Gutenkauf, her daughter Linda Gutenkauf Avery, her parents William and Gertrude Snow, and her brother Richard (Dick) Snow.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales, Louisiana on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 9AM - 11 AM with a funeral service beginning at 11AM. Burial will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memory in Gonzales. Pallbearers will be David Boudreaux, Ryan Boudreaux, Justin Boudreaux, Scott Babin, Paul Avery and Michael Luke. Honorary pallbearer is Louis Babin. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Helen.
