

Hubert Royce "JR" Prewitt, Jr., born December 30, 1954, passed away peacefully on Monday February 9, 2026, in Prairieville, Louisiana. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, JR lived a life grounded in faith, family, and the great outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mazelle Blaylock Prewitt; father, Hubert Prewitt Sr.; and his sisters, Diana Lester and Kathy Prewitt.
From his early years in Mississippi to his later life in Louisiana, JR carried with him a strong sense of purpose and a deep commitment to those he loved. For 45 years, JR shared a steadfast and loving marriage with his wife Penny Prewitt. Together they built a life centered on mutual respect and unwavering support. He was a proud father to daughters: Renee Prewitt and Patricia Solar. A man of deep Christian faith, JR was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church and found peace in his relationship with his Lord and Savior. His spiritual strength was evident to all who knew him; he lived each day with compassion and integrity. JR had a passion for the outdoors that defined much of his leisure time. He found solace in hunting and camping activities that allowed him to connect with nature and share meaningful moments with loved ones. Those who knew JR will remember him as a caring Christian man whose presence brought comfort and strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Survived by his loving wife, Penny McElwain Prewitt, daughters, Tricia Solar (son in law, Jamie Solar) and Constance Renee Prewitt, granddaughter Victoria Butler (fiance' Shane Garcia) and grandsons Zachary Elisar, Christopher Prewitt, Cameron Prewitt and Collin Prewitt. May memory bring peace to all who mourn his passing. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 12 pm until the funeral service at 2 pm at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, Louisiana.
