Scatter me softly to the breeze, let me rest among the trees; No stone or grave need mark my place, for I am held in love’s embrace; No need for sorrow, heavy and deep, my soul awoke, it did not sleep; God has returned me to the skies, where love lives on and never dies; Find me in laughter, warm and true, even on ball fields in the morning dew; Speak my name and I am near, at every game whether we holler or cheer.
James "Jimmy" Elvin Jackson, aged 74, resident of Walker, La., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, loving son, protective brother, playful uncle and dear friend to many. Jimmy was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 27, 1951.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ashley Elvin Jackson but is survived by his mother, Elnora Jackson Fontenot; three siblings, Milton and Tommy Jackson and Lori Jackson Manning; wife of 44 years, Priscilla Sauer Jackson; brother-in-law, Randy Sauer; three children (and spouses), Robert Henson, Jamie Jackson (Bobbie Sue) and Kimberly Haddox (Todd); ten grandchildren, Nathan, Justin, Raegan, Logan, Morgan, Ali, Alyssa, Abby, Kayleigh and Rayleigh; seven great-grandchildren, Bryson, Beau, Kasen, Paisley, Parker, Kennedi and Kamryn; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jimmy graduated from Central High School in 1969. For a decade after, he traveled all over the United States as a driver for Bekins Van Lines. In 1981, he married Pris and built his own business specializing as a Painter Contractor while raising his family. After his retirement, he devoted all his time to his family and his favorite activities that included: fishing, baseball and traveling. As a devoted family man, he especially enjoyed traveling to see his grandchildren play baseball and rarely missed any games, no matter the location. His positive encouragement toward all children, on and off the field, earned him the organization’s nickname as the “Bulls Paw Paw.” A lifelong devotee of the diamond, Jimmy, was rarely seen without his LA Bulls gear and could always be counted on for a play-by-play analysis of the game. Jimmy’s legacy of humor, perseverance and positivity will be carried by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
To appropriately pay tribute to his life, a Celebration of Life event will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the French Settlement Town Hall (16015 LA Highway 16, French Settlement, LA) from 3 pm till. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Jimmy’s name.
