Jimmie Alfred Michel of Saint Amant, LA passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Thursday, October 29, 2026.He was born on February 27, 1938, to Alfred "PoBo" Michel and Julie Lessard Michel. He graduated from St. Amant High School in 1956, then became a welder and worked hard every day of his life, taking care of his land and his family.
Mr. Jimmie grew up and grew his family in St. Amant where, in recent years, he could most often be found in his garden, fishing, riding his bike, or attending church. First, and foremost, he loved God and his family. He also loved his fresh vegetables (especially cucumbers), watching football with his boys, working on projects around the house or barn, taking care of his chickens, and making us all laugh, even on harder days. He was a wonderful Pawpaw, the best neighbor, an incredible gardener, a great chef, and our go-to for fresh fried fish and potatoes.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred "Pobo" Michel and Julie Lessard Michel; and his sister, Audrey (Winburn Michel Wells.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley McCrory Michel, and his children, Jana Michel, Russ (Neely) Michel, and Scott (Tracy) Michel. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Stevie (Shea) Allen, Mason (Allysa) Michel, Cole Michel (Leigha Villar), Maggie Michel, Kylie Michel; and 2 great-grandchildren: Summer Marie Michel and Sage Allen. He is also survived by his siblings, Johnny (Renee) Michel and Mary (Tony) Bruno; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jimmie lived such a full life, and he was loved by so many. He will be deeply missed but always remembered.
The family also would like to thank Baton Rouge Rehab Hospital and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
