Greatly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and uncle, John “Johnny” Steven Albano passed away on 11/12/2025 at the age of 85. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in the Gentilly area. He spent much of his childhood enjoying City Park, which was close to his home. He graduated from McDonough High School where he played football in his Senior year. After high school he saw the world as a young man with the United States Navy. He did a tour of duty on the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier, during which time he visited Italy, France, Greece, and Turkey.
It was an experience that he cherished and it fostered a life-long love of travel. He spent many years taking his family on fun-filled vacations. The vacations were a constant throughout his life and provided years of unforgettable and cherished memories for his family.
He attended Tulane University, and graduated from Delgado Community College and the University of New Orleans, earning an Associate’s and a Bachelor’s degree. He worked for many years in sales, and then as a Computer Programmer before retirement.
He was a naturally curious person and loved the natural world. In his later years, he fulfilled a lifelong dream with his wife Mary by living in the country for many years. They raised chickens, geese, and ducks, planted and grew many different types of trees and shrubs, and had several beloved dogs. He was also accomplished in woodworking and woodcarving and built many things during his time in the country.
Throughout his life, he remained a jokester, and was forever young at heart. From a young age, he knew how to have a good time. He had a special talent for throwing parties and knew how to bring people together, make his guests comfortable, and make them laugh. He was a true wit. As fun loving as he was, he was also humble and was a very deep thinker. He was an excellent writer, had an affinity for intellectual conversation, and was a mentor to many. His perspective was prized and he had a knack for giving great advice.
Johnny will be dearly missed and loved forever. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, four children, Tony, Patti (Craig), Deb (Miguel), and Les (Mick), two step-children, Catherine (Kenny), and Trey (Sarah), ten grandchildren, Molly, Emily (Blake), Chris, Matt, Kayla, Nick (Sydney), Jude, Maddie, Juliette, and Landon, five great-grandchildren, Hazel, E.J., Xayden, Xendayah, and the newest, Magnus “Little Buddy”, a brother August (Patsy) Albano, two sisters, Marilyn Albano Cohn and Susie Albano Conzelmann, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Peter A. Albano, his mother Mary DiCarlo Albano, his sister Evelyn Albano Toups, and brothers-in-law Henry Cohn and David Conzelmann. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
