

John Ottis Duplessis, age 81, a resident of Midlothian, Texas and a native of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. John cherished life and brought joy to those around him with his laughter and love for family. He found happiness in simple pleasures—playing dominoes, making music with loved ones, crafting his famous fudge, and sharing curly fries with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid sports fan and woodworker, he also enjoyed feeding deer and turkeys and was known for his quick wit and endless jokes. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Dixon Duplessis; daughter, Darnell Rechee’ Duplessis; sisters, Winnie West, Libby Moran, Ada Lavoie, and Belva Crain (Danny); brothers, Aaron Duplessis (Helen), Paul Duplessis (Ronda), and Roger Duplessis (Sue); two grandchildren, Jeremy Dean (Kelsee) and Sarah Walker (Adrian); five honorary grandchildren, Shannon, Kent, Dustin, Morgan, and Kaylan; and seven great-grandchildren: Zoey, Aaliyah, Deuce, Jackson, Mason, Amare, and Avonte. He was preceded in death by his father, Sabas O. Duplessis Sr., mother, Leontine Duplessis; and his siblings Harry Kling, Ella Duplessis, Rose Fontenot, Ruby Duplessis, Dolores Cosper, Sabas Duplessis Jr., Iris Gautreau, and Millie Gaudin. A Celebration of Life will be held at Full Gospel Lighthouse Church, 40468 Causey Rd., Prairieville, LA 70769 on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., officiated by Bro. Bobby Bryer. John will be laid to rest at Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales, Louisiana.
