John Nolan Rouyea, a life-long resident of St. Amant, LA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on November 29, 2022. Oh, what a glorious day in the heavens it was as he reunited with his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores “Dolly” Babin Rouyea. “He will wipe all tears from their eyes; there will be no more death and no more mourning or sadness or pain. The former things have passed away.” Rev 21:4
Prior to retirement, John was a pipefitter with Local Union 198 and owned Rouyea Water Wells. He met many people through his years of work and made lifelong friendships that he cherished until his last breath. Through the years he loved hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and watching football (every game on tv and reruns too). He’s passed on a legacy of his interests to his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. John was kind-hearted and never met a stranger. He was always cracking jokes and loved to make people smile and laugh even when he wasn’t feeling his best. His smile was infectious and will be missed tremendously. He recently celebrated his 85th birthday with a house full of family who were his absolute pride and joy. He and Dolly created a beautiful family and legacy. Now it’s time for them to rest as their work here on earth is done.
He is survived by his children, Mitzi Bates, Brad Rouyea (Mandi), Lisa Melancon (Rickey), Tina Gautreau (Mike); grandchildren, Sarah Paul (Dave), Kayla Bates, Ben Bates (Katy), D’Nea Millet, Kayne Rouyea (Jessica), Landon Rouyea (Lacey), Judd Rouyea, Brandi Harrell (Jerry), Ryan Melancon, Chase Melancon (Brooklynn), Garett Melancon (Blaire), Bryce Gautreau (MaKenzie), Claire Gautreau; 15 great grandchildren; brother and best friend, Alton Rouyea. He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Lucille Hebert Rouyea; great grandson, Gabriel Thomas Melancon; brothers, Roy Sr., Herbert, Herman Sr., Curtis Sr. and Albert Rouyea.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Francois Bend Assisted Living, Clarity Hospice, as well as Roberta Robichaux, Debbie Knighten, Stephanie Ross-Truehill, Shonda Ross, Trista Haynes, Frenchgernitta Sanders, Bobbie Savoy Cockburn, Corrie Savoy, and Rita Cannon for their loving care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Amant on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 beginning at 9AM; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM. Burial will follow at the church mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Ben Bates, Kayne Rouyea, Landon Rouyea, Judd Rouyea, Chase Melancon, Garett Melancon and Bryce Gautreau. Honorary pallbearer will be Alton Rouyea. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oursofh.com for the Rouyea family.
