

A passionate and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, he passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, surrounded by his family at his home in Prairieville. He was a 79 and a native of Oklahoma. Pat was a retired carpenter with Local 1098. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, gardening, football, and most of all, watching his grandchildren playing sports. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Mire Melugin; daughters, Cynthia Melugin Brecheen, and Patricia Melugin Hima and husband George; sons, Johnnie B. Melugin Jr. and wife Jeannine, and Michael Melugin Sr. and wife Cindy; sisters, Ruby Melugin Schaper and husband Wayne, and Linda Melugin Ochs and husband Don; grandchildren, U.S. Army Major Larry Babin Jr. and wife Chrissie, Jody Paul Melugin and friend Charity Griffin, Rachel Babin Campo and husband Anthony, Michael Melugin Jr. and wife Callie, Joshua Melugin and Meghan Melugin; great-grandchildren, Christa, Gabriel, Hannah and Noah Babin, Landon, Jaycee and Jaydon Campo, and Alyse and Kane Melugin; special niece, Shirley White; many other loving family members and his favorite four-legged companion, Jack, a yellow lab. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Webber Duplessis; stepfather, Benjamin Mulder; father, John Irving Melugin; brother, Carl Melugin; and sons-in-law, Clyde Brecheen Sr. and Larry Babin Sr. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Rubin Reynolds, celebrant. Entombment in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery, Prairieville. Pallbearers will be U.S. Army Major Larry Babin Jr., Jody Paul Melugin, Michael Melugin Jr., Joshua Melugin, Landon Campo and Gabriel Babin. Honorary pallbearer is Noah Babin.
